Even FedEx Uses The Post Office
Jul 10th, 2007 by Jeremy
Well I had a good reason to laugh this morning. I was going through my mail from the previous day and found a notice that FedEx was having difficulty delivering a package to me. This was a bit of a surprise considering first that I wasn’t expecting something, and second because they were obviously able to get me a notice, then why not the package. I turned over the postcard and had my answer…
FedEx had sent the notice via USPS (the post office) rather than their standard door tag. I have had the tags before when the package must be signed for and no one was available to accept the package. That is nothing new. In this case, they needed an address correction and couldn’t figure it out on their own.
What I noticed on the post card address was they had a typo in my address, so the street number was wrong. So rather than do a little research to find the correct info, they sent a card via USPS to me to with the request to call back and get things fixed.
So after all the knocks we all make on the post office, apparently they are the only ones smart enough to get a letter delivered even when the address is just a bit off. Next time I have something to gripe about with them, I’ll have to remember this little good thing they did and bite my tongue…just once.

I’ve gotta go with UPS…GO BROWN as they have the guys in shorts…somedays I order stuff UPS just to get a delivery! ;)
Jeremy,
I’m glad you can compliment the USPS, but here’s my rant. In January I read about the new Hershey kisses commemorative stamp offered but only at select locations. So, being online all-the-time, I went to the USPS website, ordered my 20 stamp booklet, paid the $1 extra for the privilege of ordering online! and figured I had plenty of time for a Valentine’s Day direct mail piece I was sending to select clients.
Feb. 14th came and went, no stamps. Can’t find any customer service tab to click at usps.gov, so figured the order never went through. Rec’d my credit card statement end of Feb. and there’s the charge, but fortunately a phone number accompanies the order number. Call the 800- number, told item’s shipped, “must be the new, larger mailer they’re using,” says the operator. Don’t know why this would matter. I’m thinking little, bitty package of stamps is more likely to get lost than a 14×16 mailer. They issued a credit. No harm, no foul except that my clients didn’t receive my great sales pitch letter.
Why do I know it’s a 14×16 mailer? Because 10 days later, a large, red, white and blue mailer arrives with my stamps! It’s now almost Easter. What I am going to do with Hershey kisses, love stamps?
I used them to send good vibes to all the service providers I love to hate…cable, telephone, city water & sewage.
That last line ought to open a new line of rants. Did you read the latest about Sprint?
It is because the USPS is still delivered and sorted by HUMAN BEINGS and not ALL computerized. And the Mail carriers know where it is supposed to go and not just what the address says. Another reason to give your lettercarriers a nice gift for Christmas.
I like the USPS and like FedEx because they deliver in the mornings and UPS doesn’t get here until 3-5 in the afternoon. (I like my stuff early ;)
