Lezhai,
Yep I had allowed myself to be brainwashed for a bit...but soon realized how lucky I am...roses die...candy makes you fat but a man you can depend on is priceless! ;)
And we are going to NYC in April for a treat as well...so I really can't complain! :)

Ali, I was just about to disagree with most of your post, until the last paragraph. How true!!!!

My husband and I have decided to boycott the steriotyipical Valentines day. We don't do flowers, candy, jewlry or anything like that. Heck, we even boycott dinner on that day. Nothing says I love you like being packed in like sardines at the Olive Garden! No thanks. We don't do card or anything of the sort, I think we do remember to say "Happy Valentines Day", if we are feeling festive.

We have decided that this holiday is just another excuse for store to make more money. I have recently been paying attention to how much the holidays that used to be just another day, or even a nice holiday, have been turned into another reason to spend a fortune. Valentines Day, Easter...and yes, I do believe that I now see St. Patricks Day decorations in the store. It is only a matter of time until they commercialize St. Patty's Day and has some reason to spend a fortune for that holiday too.

I like my holidays minimal and with meaning....the REAL meaning, not the guilt laden meaning that the media puts out there. I DON'T have to spend thousands on my kids for Christmas. My husband knows I love him without spending $127.00 on him. Easter still has the same meaning without a stash of candy a mile high and bunny's coming out of my ears.

So, while yesterday was a holiday, you wouldn't have known it until the kids came home from school with a TON of Valentines with Shaquil O'Neal saying "Hope You Have A Sporty Valentines Day" (Yes, I am serious) There wasn't any pressure to get my Husband anything, and no pressure on my husband to get me anything. Now our Anniversary is something else....the pressure is HIGH! Hehe
