Waiting for Christmas Kills Me
Dec 8th, 2006 by Jeremy
This post builds on my comments about really liking to receive gifts, and is perhaps a downside of the season in my view. If you are a late shopper, then this really doesn’t apply to you. Not only do I like receiving gifts, I hate waiting until Christmas Day for all the gifts to get opened!
Now I have to pull myself out of this whole of looking like a complete greedy idiot. What I really hate waiting for is to see the look of enjoyment on the faces of those I have given gifts to. I get a lot of gratification in finding that I really did pick a gift they love, and hopefully have surprised them. Come on, admit it, even if you are a gift receipt lover like me, nothing beats receiving that gift of a warm smile, a hug and the look of pure enjoyment on the face of someone on the receiving end of your exchange.
Are you a one of those gift-peekers that can’t wait until the big day? I am proud to say I am not, if that is in fact something you can be proud of I guess. I can readily tell you who is the worst I know at waiting until Christmas, and that is my brother :) He love that when he reads it. He and his family have the tradition of opening one gift on Christmas Eve - which is not all that uncommon I know - but it is still funny to me. I would venture to say that he is likely awake before the kids Christmas morning to get to the presents…hehe
So, if waiting ’til Christmas kills you too, tell share your comment and admit it. Perhaps even share a story you might have about someone having not waited for Christmas, or the look on a gift that didn’t go over as well as intended.

Oh we are guilty of getting up before the kids. We would go wake THEM up at 6 am, after we have stayed in bed for an hour saying “Is it too early?” hehe.
I love Christmas Morning, there is nothing like the magic of the lights, anticipation and joy! The best thing is watching the kids open their present and realize the one gift they REALLY wanted was in their hand!
I LOVE everything about Christmas! The decorating, the lights on homes, the shopping, the wrapping of gifts…EVERYTHING! So I’d like Christmas to last! I find it so depressing to have to take the tree and all down after. And yes, I do get up first on Christmas morning…have since I was a kid! Best time…sit while it’s still dark outside with the Christmas tree the only lights on in the house…cup of hot chocolate. But I would be happy to have it like the movie Ground Hog Day….and re-live Christmas morning over and over!
I do not peek at any of my gifts. Most of my family sends me gift cards or cash anyhow. Now this does bug me a bit as I take so long to find perfect gifts for them…oh well….another rant! LOL!
As a kid I’d go crazy waiting if a relative mailed gifts to us wrapped!!!! But now as I said in the other post Jeremy…the getting of my gifts is second. I can’t WAIT until my family wakes up (and sometimes I get them up) to open gifts! THAT is the hardest part for me…not giving hints out to my gifts I got them!!!!
Christmas? It’s the most wonderful time of the year.
As far as giving the right gift…I have an example.
A co-worker of mine has a birthday coming up. I gave an early present to him as not to stir much attention on the real day. He turn red with embarrassment & said it was perfect. I know it will be used. Now I try to buy “family” Christmas gifts. I don’t have kids and I’m not rich. Isn’t it the thought that counts even if you receive a Chia Pet? Here’s an idea…let’s all get Jeremy Chia Pets.
Just found this little blog comment and have to add mine too!!! HA HA HA HA (or, I should say HO HO HO).
I’m a snooper, peeker and rarely surprised with what I get (especially from husband).
I am one who can look under beds, in closets and let me shake those gifts underneath the tree. I can touch, feel and punch them with a finger to feel them.
A kid at heart - you betcha!!!!! I don’t do it as often as I used too - but I am a curious George-type person that just has to do a squeeze or two of a package with my name on it - not knowing what the hubby has bought me.
We are like 2 peas in a pod lately - family tradition was that you get to open one gift Christmas Eve - the rest has to wait until Christmas Day morning when we’re up (it is just the 2 of us with our 3 little girls - the dogs). So, the last 2 years we got so excited, we opened our gifts all on Christmas Eve - go figure - kids at heart, you betcha!!!!!
Luckily, we still have gifts from other family members when we see them Christmas Day and have no idea of what we’re getting - unless someone asks - sure, I’d love a Porsche (I still haven’t found one in my driveway yet).
I still enjoy opening gifts and I love watching people open their gifts - especially all of the kids. Do you think they remember who they got that gift from? Doubt it they get so many at times.
