Cell Phone Privacy

Now I’m sure most of us have some kind of rant about where and how people use their cell phones. Everybody loves complaining about cars, movie theaters, restaurants, and public places. This rant is not about any of those. No, this is about those people that use their cells phones in the worst of places, the bathroom, especially public ones.
At what point does a person ever think that it is ok to use a phone while sitting on the can? Of all my pet peeves, this is one of my most recent, and yet strongest. In the era before cell phones, I think most people, especially men, understood the rule that you just didn’t talk to other people in the bathroom, it’s the rule. So what made it ok to bring in an outside conversation?
Here at work, people from an office over tend to use our facilities, and I’m surprised at the number of them that try to hold business conversations while in the stall. Lucky for them I’m one of those kind people that ever so gently informs them of their mistake. Actually, I tend to try and be as loud as I can to make sure the person on the other end of the line realizes that they are talking in the bathroom. Just doing my part to help society.

Hahahaha….I can’t stop laughing. I am trying hard not to picture this, but I will definitely keep the idea in mind next time someone in a nearby stall is on the phone. I can just imagine the person on the other end of the call wondering what the heck is going on.
I’m a victim of this, but in a different way. My husband calls me while I’m out shopping, but it seems he knows the second I step into the bathroom. If I don’t answer it, he keep calling until I do. If I do answer it, then I’ve annoyed everyone around me. I think though, that I’m the one that’s ANNOYED the most!
Cell phones can be muted, so why not mute while you flush? I agree the cell phone should never be used in the bathroom, but when my 79 year-old dad’s been sick and they call to tell me how he’s doing, I’m not ignoring that call, no matter where I am!
[...] Remembering the post awhile back on What’s Gotta Go about Bathroom Cell Phone Use, this joke in the current Reader’s Digest made me chuckle. “A recent survey reported that 27% of Americans take their cell phones to the bathroom, an indication that reading is definitely becoming a lost art.” — Garth Gamblin [...]
